Annie Todoruk (nee Perih)
Suddenly and peacefully, our loving and caring Mother Anne passed away on April 26, 2011, at the Dauphin Regional Health Centre, with her daughter by her side.
Anne was born in Gilbert Plains to Christopher and Mary (Sydor) Perih, on April 14, 1922. She was the third eldest of six children, and her early years were spent on her parents’ farm. She attended Lemberg School.
In August 1944, Anne married Matt Syrnyk, and farmed in the Keld District. They raised three daughters, working tirelessly on the family farm growing crops, gardens, raising chickens, milking cows, and preserving the fruits and vegetables. Due to Matt’s failing health, they moved to the town of Dauphin. Anne cherished the farm, and only recently sold the land to her grandson.
Anne remarried in 1974 to Michael Todoruk, and continued to live in Dauphin. Many winters were spent in Texas, with friends and family, until they could no longer drive that long distance. It was very important to them to stay active and independent in their own home, and with God’s grace and good health, they did, until their final days.
Anne was a member of the Ukrainian Catholic Women’s League and a devoted parish member.
“Baba” left many special memories to her children and grandchildren. Her love of gardening, traditional Ukrainian food, and her generous nature, will be cherished,
She is lovingly remembered by her daughters, Sylvia (Mike) Maloney of Rivers, Rosaleen (George) Fedak of Ottawa, and Gladys (Kevin) Stewart of Winnipeg; her stepson Ernie (Dianna) Todoruk of Winnipeg; six grandchildren, seven step grandchildren; along with numerous great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Anne was predeceased by her first husband Matt in 1972, and by Michael Todoruk in 2008; a stepdaughter Nellie Andrechuk; four brothers, John, Peter, Joe and Frank Perih; and her sister Julia Kawchuk.
We would like to express our thanks to the Dauphin Hospital’s doctors and nurses, for their care in her last week of life, and to Dr. Lysack for his encouragement and support. A special thank you to cousin Frank, for all his help, thoughtfulness, and friendship, over the last few years.
She was a wonderful mother, Baba, and friend, and will be missed by all of us.
A Prayer Service was held on Friday, April 29, 2011, at 5:00 p.m., preceded by the Rosary at 4:30 p.m., led by the UCWL, from the Sneath-Strilchuk Funeral Chapel in Dauphin.
The Funeral Liturgy was celebrated on Saturday, April 30, 2011, at 10:00 a.m., from the Ukrainian Catholic Church of the Resurrection in Dauphin, with the Reverend Father Oleg Bodnarski celebrating. Marvin Procyshyn was the Cantor. Andrew Fedak delivered the eulogy. Matthew Maloney served as Crossbearer. Kelvin Maloney was the Epistle Reader. Her grandchildren Kelvin Maloney, Bryan Maloney, Andrew Fedak, Stephanie Semeniuk, Graham Stewart, and Lawrence Stewart served as Pallbearers. Interment followed in the Dauphin Riverside Cemetery.
Donations in Anne’s memory may be made to the Dauphin General Hospital Foundation, 625 3RD ST SW, Dauphin, MB R7N 1R7.
Arrangements were entrusted to Sneath-Strilchuk Funeral Services with funeral homes in Dauphin, Roblin and Ste. Rose du Lac.
